What Set Me Free
Do you know what finally helped set me free from 30 years of compulsive eating? When I learned how to think and act like a thin person.
I came to the place of finally admitting that the Diet Industry did not give me the answers I was looking for. So I began to search for other strategies that were more effective for lasting weight loss. (Who in their right mind wants to spend money, energy, time, etc. on a diet, lose the weight and then gain it all back? But this happens 98% of the time with diets. Astonishingly bad statistics, if you ask me!)
One day I walked into a national weight loss office here in Vermont and asked the young woman at the desk if this program helped her to lose weight and keep it off. She gasped and said, “Oh no, I’ve never had a weight problem.” I couldn’t help but wonder how she could relate to, empathize with, and encourage those who do if she has never struggled herself?
Well, I have struggled. For a long time. I know the pain and the frustration, I know what it’s like to be thinking about food all the time, to be emotionally dependent upon it, to be enslaved by it. It is not a nice way to live in a world full of food. Talk about stress!
Well, if not a diet, then how? There is a better way to solve this whole dilemma!
Model the Successful People
One key answer for a breakthrough in your eating and weight struggles is to learn to think and act like those who don’t struggle with food and weight . . . people I call the NormallyThin.
NormallyThin people do not think about food all day long. Nor do they run to food to numb the painful emotions that rise up in this life. In other words, they eat for their bodies instead of their mind and/or emotions. They listen to their bodies and feed it when hunger hits, but don’t eat at other times. They eat normal foods instead of diet foods and they enjoy their eating with celebration and delight, instead of guilt.
