Self-Care Matters. Health Matters. You are given one opportunity in this life to live well. And although some things are outside your control for health, many things are inside your control and can be influenced by the choices and actions you make.
Self-Care is Good Stewardship
Many people are taught to put themselves last, while serving God and others above their own needs. Unfortunately, this catches up with people over time. I know from my own experience that when you do not feel well, physically, emotionally or spiritually, it affects your entire outlook and the ability to love God and others. Out of my own struggles, I have discovered the need to put my health as a priority.
In one of their books¹, Dr Townsend and Dr Cloud mention that having your needs met is not selfish (as many think or have been taught) but is good stewardship of the life God has given you. Stewardship is defined as the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.² Your health has indeed been entrusted to your care.
We each have legitimate needs that were given to us by God, and taking care of these needs IS important! You have the need to sleep in order to function with a clear head, the need to eat well for good energy, the need for exercise on a regular basis for strength and stamina, and the need to feed your spiritual being by connecting with the Lord. It is also important to pay attention to your emotional signals and to feel these emotions rather than stuff them, numb them or ignore them.
Body, Soul and Spirit Health
You are a three-part being. In order to live well, it is helpful to address each area of health, as each influences the other. When you are not feeling well in one area, the other areas suffer. You suffer. Your loved ones suffer.
Your body houses all that you do in this life, your soul is the expression of your personality, mind, will and emotions, and your spirit is where you connect with the God of the Universe, the Holy Spirit, discovering His unending love and acceptance.
I enjoy helping people find health in each and any area listed here. So please contact me below if you would like to improve your physical, emotional or spiritual health, and tell me a bit about your life story. I will contact you for a free initial consultation to brainstorm self-care ideas with you. Also, please check out these resources I provide:
Resources to Help You
Instruction and Coaching: I offer instructional coaching opportunities, both locally and over Skype or phone. I enjoy helping people make goals to improve their health and well being, and then keeping them accountable through weekly (or other) meetings together. I love to discern what might most help you, what is at the root of your health concerns, and how you may best move forward. For more information about coaching with me, see this page: Personal Coaching. (My prices are very reasonable compared to other coaching rates).
Video Series: I created a short video series on the topic of Self-Care, titled “Celebrate You! Becoming Your Best You Ever.” It is meant to be an introduction to looking at the three parts, Body, Soul and Spirit and suggesting areas of growth while also encouraging you to accept your unique self the way God has made you. I give you feedback in each area personally as you work through this series. For more information, see this page: Celebrate You!
Yes, it is important to feel well and to live well. And with this, comes peace!
And may God Himself who gives peace, make you entirely holy; and may your spirits, souls and bodies be preserved complete and be found blameless at the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
