In my latest post, I mentioned that I was trying a gluten-free experiment for 6-weeks to see if this would help with my brain fog issue.
The biggest change I have noticed, which kicked in around the 4-week mark, is the absence of the daily headaches which were coming on as I worked throughout my day! This is very good news and a huge relief. I am no longer taking Advil to relieve these headaches and I feel as though my brain has more light inside! The brain fog is diminishing and I am thinking clearly now!
Yes, this is worth the adjustment to the gluten-free lifestyle. According to my sleep doctor, I will see the full benefits at the 9-month mark.
I have given up all products with gluten, including bread, pasta, cookies, cakes, etc (unless they are made with gluten-free products). I have learned to make my own bread in my bread machine, I have cooked the pasta and even brought some along when eating with my Italian family. I really like the taste of gluten-free crackers. However, I am trying to be careful not to overeat these products, as the ingredients often are not great for healthy blood sugar levels, another thing I need to watch.
One hard adjustment is not being able to grab a bagel, egg sandwich, or quick fast food lunch when out and about. This is causing me to eat better, actually, as I bring along a healthy snack if I am going to out for awhile. I miss egg breakfast sandwiches, especially.
I am so thankful for my naturopath, Dr Bill Warnock from Shelburne Road, for recommending this experiment. Goodbye headaches and brain fog!! It’s so great to be able to think clearly again – without so much effort just trying to focus.
