Where is the abundant life, anyway? Jesus came to bring us life – not just a surviving kind of life, but an abundant one.
When I was struggling with compulsive overeating, I found myself asking this question, “Where is the abundant life?” Why? Because I had no peace. I was very troubled in my soul with my eating, my appearance, and my dependence on food. So I began the search for finding peace in this area of my life.
When I discovered that my body gives me all the information I need for eating and Jesus wanted to provide the healing from the unhealthy dependence on food, I knew I had found the answer. Finally! FINALLY!
When Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.
Acts 17:16 NLT
I am so troubled by the trauma and pain that overeating creates in peoples’ lives. I am distressed that people are consumed with food – because I know that this creates a living hell, lived one day at a time. I lived in that hell for 30 years [10,957 days] and I hate that others struggle as much or more than I did.
Food was meant to be a gift from God to nourish our bodies, to enable us to perform well in life and love others well. The enemy has distorted what was meant for good and now it is a source of incredible pain for some. Food was my best friend, as well as my worst enemy that robbed me of what I wanted – to be thin and guilt free, at peace with myself, my body, and food.
If you find yourself in emotional or physical pain today because of the extra food you are eating and the extra weight you are carrying, please be encouraged. I don’t live in that hell anymore, which means you can come out of it as well. Jesus is wanting to set the captives free – and that might just be you!
Can you relate to this lack of peace and living hell I am describing? Please share with us by commenting on this post.
