How does one escape the trap of turning to food all the time? How can you get off the roller coaster of overeating compulsively and dieting to try to regain control of your life? Is it possible to be cured from this living hell?
YES!! It is possible to gain a new life!
I was a compulsive overeater for 30 years. I tried lots of different diets – I actually was quite a successful dieter. I lost a lot of weight over those years – the same pounds over and over again. Unfortunately, dieting only made the situation worse in the long run. I lost the weight temporarily each time, HOWEVER, the attachment to food grew with every diet. I became consumed with the entire topic and it took over my life. All I could think about was my weight (which I hated), food (which I loved and hated), and what a failure I was. My thoughts were overtaken by this and I lived a life traumatized by my desire to be thin conflicted with my turning to food over and over again. What a horrible mess.
Compulsive Overeating is debilitating. That’s why I am so motivated to help others find the Freedom that I have found. My freedom came through taking a class which taught me how to live a normal lifestyle.
Yes, there is a cure for Compulsive Eating!
I think it is amazing that a number of people stumbled upon the same solution; I have since read a number of testimonies and books about this topic and it amazes me that everyone found the same idea. These people were looking for a permanent solution as I was and they stumbled upon an incredible revelation – that instead of looking to dieters and the dieting industry for an answer (those who have struggled with the same problem), let’s look instead to those who have never struggled. Let’s look at the naturally thin people whose weight never changes – even though they do not diet! What a revelation; what a powerful secret!
What is the lifestyle of someone who does not struggle with compulsive overeating? How do they stay thin? Let’s model their thinking and eating behaviors – and we too will become naturally thin! Now, I’m not talking about the person who has such an incredibly high metabolism that they eat all day long, taking second helpings at the Chinese Buffet. I’m talking about normal people!
My journey out of Compulsive Eating included embracing this Lifestyle of the Thin combined with a lot of praying! I knew that I could never get free on my own – I was way too stuck. So I saturated myself with scriptures and moments basking in God’s love. I asked for God’s help over and over and over again. I renewed my mind with His thoughts about the topic. I knew that He had created me to be normal, that I had wandered WAY off that path, and that only He could get me back there!
I took the opportunity seriously – I wanted out of the Rut of Overeating and into the Path of the Normally Thin. I re-learned how to eat according to what my body was giving me for information. I curtailed all eating that was outside of what my body needed for fuel (all that emotional eating had to go!). Yes, it took some practice and some begging and many times on my knees – but I finally began living the life of respecting my body signals. I also learned and practiced honoring God with the body He had given me. I made decision after decision to not abuse this body with extra food. I totally jumped off the Dieting bandwagon (I ditched Dieting forever!) and jumped onto the path of Normal Eating with gusto and determination. I wanted a new life – and I wanted it badly.
Thank You, Lord, for bringing me into Freedom! Wow, every decision to say “No!” to extra food paid off. Every challenge to my skewed thinking paid off. Every moment praying and reading the Bible paid off! Why? Because eventually the pull to food diminished and I found normalcy again!! You are an amazing God!
And all I can say is – it was worth every denial, every cost, the diligence, the dependence on God – all of it. Because I no longer live that traumatized life of the Guilty, Unhappy Overeater. And if I can get here, I know that you can too!
