I am reading about stress and how we often choose to deal with it. What if I congratulated you on your overeating?! Well, it IS an attempt to take care of yourself! So, congratulations!! You may likely be dealing with your stress by turning to food to comfort you. But, I have to ask, “How’s it working for you??!” Our attempts to deal with stress often backfire on us with other negative consequences. Eating is just one such example – you feel comforted while you eat, but then you are left still facing the stressors in your life along with the added weight of guilt and extra pounds. Oh my! Such destruction.
There are better ways to handle stress. Turning to the Lord for comfort is the best way. He loves and cares for you way beyond what you are able to do for yourself. But are we turning to Him? Are we spending that time with Him that recharges and reenergizes? I have to admit, I’ve been slacking in that department lately. I don’t deny my stressors nor stuff the emotions, but I also don’t always soak in His Presence to receive the comfort I need. Sad.
So I am going to get off my computer now and read in my Bible and ask Him to speak to me. I need comfort right now and I know from past experiences that He will give it to me. Thank you, Papa, for loving me so much that You are there for me continually and endlessly.
